Bovey Tracey Tennis Academy in Partnership with

LTA Youth Programme

Tennis is one of the best sports to help your child develop valuable life skills, like respect, teamwork, fair play and concentration.

Tennis for Kids is a great way for kids to learn these skills as well as the basics of the game, so they can build confidence on court and a foundation in tennis, whilst enjoying themselves in a safe environment.

Simple games, drills and activities delivered by specially trained coaches ensure kids are given the best possible start to their tennis journey, and after each session, they receive an activity card so they can practise at home with the whole family.

Most importantly, they’ll be having fun and making new friends - and who knows, it may even be the start of a life-long love for the game.

Mini Tennis provides the perfect introduction to the sport for children aged between three and 10.

Use the power of sport to help your children to develop in an inclusive and structured environment, where they can learn and grow through Mini Tennis.

The Mini Tennis programme allows the sport to be accessible to young children. The smaller courts and equipment, combined with lower-bouncing balls help to produce a platform for young people to get to grips with the game and develop a love for the sport.

The LTA Youth Programme is up and running and there are some great resources that we as coaches are using and helping us structure the lessons so they meet all the needs of the different age groups.

Learn The Basics

This is an introduction to tennis. Here, we’ll help kids improve their balance, agility and co-ordination while teaching them about the sport we love. At this stage it’s not about winning or losing, it’s just getting to grips with the basics.

Serve, Rally,Score

This will look a bit more like the tennis you know. You’ll see overarm serves, rallies and volleys. Coaches will help children to further develop their co-ordination, balance and speed. We’ll introduce relaxed competition here too.

This is the big one. It’s time for kids to play on full size courts. Now it’s all about growing their game by fine tuning and refining the techniques they’ve learned so far.

Time to find your game. Playing on a full size court with the same size balls the pros use, kids will continue to explore different styles on the court, and start to choose their own.
